The Boys’ Timothy the Octopus Gets His Own In Memoriam in New Video

The Boys has released a parody in memoriam video for the character of Timothy the Octopus. The series, which originally premiered on Prime Video on July 26, 2019, is an irreverent take on the superhero mythos, based on the DC/Wildstorm comic series of the same name. It follows a ragtag group of people led by the formidable Billy Butcher (Karl Urban) who want to bring down the unfairly celebrated group of Supes known as The Seven. The cast includes Antony Starr, Erin Moriarty, Laz Alonso, Elisabeth Shue, Jack Quaid,  Jessie T. Usher, Chace Crawford, Tomer Capon, Karen Fukuhara, and the show's newest addition, Jensen Ackles as Soldier Boy, a Captain America parody.

Crawford's character is an Aquaman spoof known as The Deep who has the ability to communicate with marine life. His character came to the fore on the most recent episode of The Boys, which featured Starr's character Homelander forcing him to eat a live octopus. Because of his superpower, he was able to learn that the creature is named Timothy and desperately desires not to be eaten.

On the official Twitter account for The Boys, they have released a hilarious video memorializing the ill-fated cephalopod. The video, which is accompanied by the caption "Prayers and thoughts. #JusticeForTimothy," features about 20 seconds of footage of the character in the moments before being devoured by The Deep, rendered in loving black and white. It ends on a still frame of the octopus reading "Timothy, 2020-2022, Rest in Power." Check out the video below:

This kind of marketing material is perfectly in keeping with The Boys' ethos of being as crass, irreverent, and shocking as possible. Staying on-brand as always, they celebrated how many times their season 3 trailer was reported on Twitter before the premiere on June 3, 2022. Recently, they have also been doubling down on in-universe parody material, including a trailer for a film about The Seven that mimics Zack Snyder's Justice League and its complicated production history.

It makes perfect sense that Timothy the Octopus' tragic demise would be the particular moment that The Boys would choose to promote its most recent episode. The show's previous Aquaman jokes have generally been more akin to something like Peacemaker exaggerating his sexual proclivities, with the other characters in The Seven looking down on The Deep and making jokes at his expense. However, this episode took that conceit a step further, as they are wont to do, turning this parody into something grotesque and hilarious (at least, depending on one's sense of humor).
