While the DCEU is constantly having to change plans to reboot its universe, the MCU has proven that some heroes can be done right with time. Thanks to the advanced technology and the hard work of some actors, such as Elizabeth Olsen, Chris Hemsworth, and Tom Holland, the cast and crew at Marvel have worked hard to make sure everyone's favorite comic book heroes are brought to life.
However, while the likes of Wanda, Thor, and Spider-Man have left a strong legacy behind them, there have been other superhero movies in the past that have failed to impress the audience. Whether it is because of the poor scripts or the less-than-stellar cinematography, they just didn't make as much of an impact. Yet, given that enough years have passed since they debuted, it might just be worth another revisit now.
The most memorable thing about the 1997 movie is that Shaquille O'Neal plays the title character. Inspired by Superman to use his technology to fight crime, all aspects of the hero were taken away in the movie.
Real-world advancements in technology and movies can improve this character and demonstrate him as a genius that uses a suit and hammer that matches the strength of his idol Superman. If not him then his sidekick, Natasha Irons, can lead the reboot, adding more diverse representation to the ever-growing world of superhero movies.
Captain Marvel was the first MCU female lead movie, but Elektra was the first female Marvel character to receive a movie. A spin-off from the 2003 Daredevil movie (which allowed comic fans to see Elektra's romance with Daredevil in more depth), in this film, Elektra was an assassin that killed without question until she wanted to change her ways.
Although Jennifer Garner was the lead in the film, it was Elodie Young who delivered a character that is skilled, dangerous, and true to her comic counterpart. An incomplete story, along with a villain trying to change into a hero, gives this character the complexity to create a compelling story that can succeed on the big screen.
Ghost Rider saw Nicholas Cage as the stunt man Johnny Blaze and his alter ego Ghost Rider. The movie was a success to the audience but a box-office flop as scenes, such as urinating fire, drove some people away.
A reboot taking place within the MCU would allow for a completely different movie compared to the action fantasy created in the original. A new movie can also see the return of Agents of SHIELD's Robbie Reyes and the appearance of several of Ghost Rider's best allies if Marvel is determined to allow a reboot to happen.
Few know of the 2005 Australian film about scientist Ted Sallis, who turns into a swamp creature with the power to burn others with a touch. The movie was not a worldwide release, with little awareness of its existence.
Man-Thing has the potential to become one of the few characters to get a horror movie in the MCU. Modern effects can allow the creature to look terrifying and can bring in writers that would allow the changes needed to differentiate the character from its DC counterpart Swamp Thing.
Howard the Duck is one of the most hated comic book movies of all time. True to his name, Howard is a duck with human characteristics that came to earth from his home planet of Duckworld.
The 1986 film put the character in live-action and often used him for adult jokes. Guardians of the Galaxy brought the return of Howard the Duck and made an example that even ridiculous comic characters, such as Rocket Raccoon, can find success through films. Marvel has started moving into the realm of animation with What if...? and Hit-Monkey and Howard the Duck can experiment by bringing animation and his form of humor to the film.
Not belonging to DC or Marvel, Spawn belongs to image comics and is the child of Todd McFarland. Making a deal with a devil, Al Simmons returns to earth as a hell spawn and is in search of vengeance for the man who betrayed him and took his life.
The original Spawn movie was ahead of its time with special effects that aged poorly and a black superhero as a leading character. A reboot has been in the works for some time now as it brings hope for a character that is brutal enough to be a guest character in Mortal Kombat. With the success of rated-R superhero movies, such as Deadpool and Kick Ass, breaking the limits that were previously set on this antihero from hell.
A hero of the wild west, Jonah Hex is a bounty hunter with sharp shooting skills. This movie starred Josh Brolin before he became popular for his role as Thanos and Cable.
The western-action movie was a box office flop due to reshoots, delays, and a poor script (via Collider). Western/cowboy movie is a rare movie genre these days, but Jonah Hex can work in a science fiction movie. The character has been written where he is placed and adapted in the 21st century and tells a story of a character adapting to a new world.
Ryan Reynolds made no secret of his disdain for the 2011 Green Lantern movie as he often makes jokes at the film's expense. The writing along with a distracting CGI suit led to the movie's downfall resulting in the cancelation of the planned sequel for one of DC's big seven founding heroes (via Screen Rant).
There are reasons the movie isn't as bad as some people think but a reboot would allow the audience to learn about the other lanterns and have a wider universe that wasn't fully explored in the previous film. The imagination of the lanterns can be shown by taking advantage of the improvements that have been made through CGI throughout the last decade. A Green Lantern Corps reboot with still little to be known about the planned film. A highly praised reboot can benefit the DCEU and give Green Lanterns such as John Stewart and Kyle Rayner their own future spinoff movies.
