Apple may be planning to launch an all-new streaming app dedicated to classical music if code from the latest Apple Music beta app is anything to go by. Apple Music is one of the most popular streaming apps in the world, and has been the closest competitor to Spotify for years. However, classical music connoisseurs often feel left out. So the launch of a dedicated app would literally be music to the ears of classical music lovers.
Apple has been working on addressing the vacuum in the classical music space for some time now. To that end, the company last year purchased a classical music streaming service called Primephonic, but promptly shut it down a few weeks down the line after incorporating some of the elements of that app within Apple Music. If the latest report now is anything to go by, Apple might be prepping to finally launch a specialized classical music app sooner rather than later.
Lines of code discovered by 9to5Google in the latest beta version of Apple Music on Android suggest that the company might be prepping to launch a dedicated classical music app called 'Apple Classical.' According to the code string, which was discovered following a recent APK teardown, users will be able to click on a link on the Apple Music app and open the track directly in the new service. It is worth noting here that this is still very early in the piece, which means the 'Apple Classical' name could just be a placeholder at this time and could change by the time the service gets ready for prime-time.

The fact that Apple is still working on a standalone classical music streaming experience was revealed a couple of months ago when a job listing by the company referred to the now-defunct Primephonic app. The listing was for a UX Designer to work on a new standalone classical music app that the company referred to as Primephonic. The job listing further added that the new app would offer a differentiated experience for classical music in terms of "visual, audial, and haptic" aspects.
Meanwhile, alongside the new lines of code, the latest beta version of Apple Music brings a number of other UI improvements, including upgraded home screen widgets. The new widgets look more modern and take up more screen real estate, making them more prominent and easier to see. However, according to the report, some of the widgets still have a few bugs that need to be sorted out before they are rolled out as part of a stable update.
