Book Of Boba Fett’s Weird Plot Hole Ignored The Series Premiere

Warning! SPOILERS for The Book of Boba Fett.

The Book of Boba Fett episode 4 spent a lot of time having the former bounty hunter revisit the Sarlacc pit, but the scene creates a plot hole by ignoring the series premiere. The Lucasfilm and Disney+ show reveals that Temuera Morrison's Boba Fett survived after the character fell into a Sarlacc pit in 1983's Return of the Jedi. Flashback scenes reveal how Boba Fett befriended Tusken Raiders and attempted to recover his ship and Mandalorian armor. In addition, Boba Fett tries to become the new crime lord on Tatooine in present-day scenes. However, the local residents aren't always welcoming.

Besides Temuera Morrison's Boba Fett, the Disney+ series also features several notable Star Wars characters. In the series, Ming-Na Wen's Fennec Shand takes her place by Boba Fett's side, working on securing his new Tatooine empire. Jennifer Beals also joins the show as Garsa Fwip, a Twi'lek running a cantina in Mos Espa. Additionally, the series includes several significant returns, with Pedro Pascal reviving his role as Din Djarin/the Mandalorian and Amy Sedaris returning as Peli Motto.

In The Book of Boba Fett episode 4, Boba Fett attempted to retrieve his armor, inadvertently creating a plot hole. During the episode, Boba Fett recovered his ship from Jabba the Hutt's Palace, and he made a quick stop at the Sarlacc pit to look for his armor inside the beast. The problem is Boba Fett used his armor in the series premiere to escape from the Sarlacc pit. In the premiere, he made it onto the sands of Tatooine before eventually passing out. Jawas came and took his armor away, but he briefly woke up and grabbed one of them. The scenes show that Boba Fett should know his armor isn't in the Sarlacc.

Boba Fett's visit to the Sarlacc in episode 4 is strange. Though the former bounty hunter lost consciousness after escaping from the Sarlacc, he appeared aware of everything going on while he was getting out of the beast's belly. He even thought on his feet quick enough to seemingly take oxygen from a dead stormtrooper the monster also consumed. Unfortunately, Boba Fett's return to the Sarlacc made the bounty hunter look incompetent. He didn't even have a good plan when he arrived at the Sarlacc, and Boba Fett would've likely died if Fennec Shand hadn't done quick thinking and killed the beast with an explosive.

The Book of Boba Fett was all about changing the bounty hunter's story, and sometimes that retconning creates Star Wars plot holes. In the case of episode 4, the series wanted to give Boba Fett some closure with the Sarlacc, so it had the bounty hunter returning to the monster to retrieve his armor. While it's strange that Boba Fett forgot he brought his armor outside of the beast, the episode appeared more concerned with the bounty hunter facing the Sarlacc one more time. After all, the series also appears to retcon the Aftermath trilogy by author Chuck Wendig, which revealed the Sarlacc was gravely injured by Jabba the Hutt's burning sail barge. The Book of Boba Fett isn't going to let the Star Wars canon stop it, even if it creates plot holes bigger than a Sarlacc pit.
