Jersey Shore: Lauren Sorrentino Explains Her Dinner Outburst

Lauren Sorrentino, wife of Mike "The Situation," shocked viewers of Jersey Shore: Family Vacation when she snapped at Deena Nicole Cortese and a waiter at dinner, but on the heels of Thursday's episode, she says it was all a misunderstanding. For the five seasons of the Jersey Shore spinoff, which shows the roomies all grown up with spouses and children, Lauren has been a steady force of positivity. She stood by Mike through his brief stint in prison, formed friendships with Deena and the other ladies of Jersey Shore, and accompanied her husband on several getaways with the crew. Her recent outburst seemed out of character and, according to Lauren, there's most to the story than what was shown on TV.

Currently on Jersey Shore: Family Vacation season 5, the group is staying at a lavish resort in the Florida Keys - a hilarious mix-up by Mike, who thought he booked an international trip. Aside from Angelina Pivarnick not having fresh underwear due to her luggage being unable to fit on the private jet, all was going well. Mike and Lauren even enjoyed a sweet anniversary picnic, complete with "chicken tendies" and Funfetti cupcakes. However, when the pair joined the others for dinner, things took a negative turn. Not only did Lauren bluntly bash her food to the waiter, she also got an attitude with Deena and Vinny Guadagnino. Throughout dinner, Lauren kept insisting that she needed to check on son Romeo and go to sleep. When Deena informed Lauren that she also has a newborn but was willing to hang out with everyone, Lauren countered that Deena should be with her baby instead.

Following the surprising scene, Lauren took to Instagram to provide an explanation for her actions. At the time the episode was filmed, Lauren was five months postpartum and suffering "severe PTSD from Romeo's very scary and serious NICU stay." After Romeo's birth, his parents were unable to take him home for two weeks because he spiked a fever. "That was my first 24 hours away from him, hoping he was ok in a hotel room w family (of course he was but I was stressed)," said Lauren. "I was anxious and out of my comfort zone." She added that a few strong and spicy margaritas didn't help the situation and admitted that she should've excused herself and met Mike in their room later.

Additionally, Lauren shared that much of the scene included "editing magic for sensationalism." Her harsh critique of the food, said Lauren, was actually part of a conversation with Mike. The placement of her dialogue by producers made it seem as though it was directed at the wait staff. As for her outburst toward Deena and Vinny, that also wasn't what it seemed. "The outbursts were directed at producers - for not acknowledging my voiced concerns and needs for hours - and not to the cast, but I can understand that's hard to see as a viewer - I did apologize to D & Vinny who I both love and respect."

The majority of Lauren's social media followers, including a number of fellow moms, completely understood how she was feeling in that moment. "I reacted the same way when I was deep in postpartum mode. New mamas need to be given a little grace," said one fan. Another commented, "Honestly, if any of us (especially new moms) were filmed 24/7 on a vacation, there would be dozens of grouchy moments on camera for everyone to judge." If there's one thing the Jersey Shore cast is good at, it's reconciling after tense interactions such as this. As long as Angelina's luggage arrives as Mike said it would, the rest of the vacation should hopefully be smooth sailing.
