Michelle Young and her fiancé Nayte Olukoya are in no rush to move in together after their whirlwind romance and proposal on the latest season of The Bachelorette. After getting down on one knee, Nayte confidently stated he would move to Minnesota "very soon" on the "After The Final Rose" special. But the pair are still dating long-distance with Michelle in her home state and Nayte living in Austin, Texas.
Like most Bachelorette couples, Michelle and Nayte fast-tracked their relationship and got engaged during the finale. Fans questioned whether the 27-year-old was ready to get married because he had never been in love. Based on his portrayal on the show, viewers saw Nayte as a player and a walking red flag. Comparing him to Brandon Jones, Michelle's second option for the final rose, fans were concerned she made the wrong choice. The Bachelorette made it clear to all of her suitors that she wanted to stay in Minnesota to keep her teaching job and be close to her family. Nayte's recent move to Austin worried fans unsure if he would be willing to move for Michelle. Proving the skeptics wrong, Nayte and Michelle were beaming at "After The Final Rose" and excitedly shared their plans to move in together in Minnesota. "We're not waiting. There's no reason to wait with Michelle. Let's do this," Nayte replied when asked about the big move. For the first time in Bachelor history, the show gifted the couple $200,000 for a down payment on their new home together.
But the couple has now revealed they're taking their time and researching the Minnesota home market before moving in together. Nayte explained to US Weekly, "We're trying to be as smart as possible. We're looking at different options. We're definitely feeling it all out." Michelle expressed she has no doubt her fiancé will move to Minnesota when the time is right. "We like to make sure that we're always making very calculated decisions, we're always looking at all of our options," she said. "Yeah, it'll happen."
The Bachelorette pair also clarified confusion over their wedding plans. In December 2021 after Michelle's season wrapped, she and Nayte stated they were "thinking summertime in the near future" for their ceremony. Fans were optimistic for a Summer 2022 wedding, but Nayte clarified to US Weekly, "We said summer. We didn't put a timeline." Michelle noted the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic would also delay their ceremony. The couple wants to wait until restrictions are lifted so all of their family and friends can safely celebrate their marriage. "It's going to happen, it's going to be warm, but that's what we know so far."
When it comes to the Minnesota move and the wedding, Nayte and Michelle clearly want fans to know they're moving at their own pace. The pair are no longer at the mercy of the fast-paced Bachelorette timeline, so they can continue to get to know each other and enjoy being in love. Fans shouldn't expect this couple to share their every move on Instagram and become picture-perfect influencers like others do post-Bachelorette. While Nayte and Michelle have expressed their appreciation for all those invested in their journey, the pair doesn't want to succumb to online pressure that has led to the downfall of other Bachelor/Bachelorette couples. Nayte and Michelle publicly fell in love on the Bachelorette, but fans will probably have to keep up with their next move through the little crumbs of content the happy couple decides to share online.
