Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess Fan Creates Imposing Darknut Cosplay

A Legend Of Zelda fan has just put together an impressive cosplay of the Darknut from Twilight Princess. Nintendo’s long-running franchise has featured plenty of memorable characters over the years, and fans have enjoyed recreating their iconic looks in costume form all the while. Aside from the expected cosplays of main protagonists like Link and Princess Zelda, cosplayers have dressed up like Zelda’s ninja-like alter-ego Sheik, Breath Of The Wild’s Urbosa, and even the creepy Happy Mask Salesman from The Legend Of Zelda: Majora's Mask.

Meanwhile, the armored Darknut has been a recurring foe for Link since its first appearance in the original Legend Of Zelda back in 1986, and has served as both a minor enemy and a serious mini-boss throughout its many appearances in the Zelda sequels, spin-offs, and media tie-ins since. The version of the Darknut from The Legend Of Zelda: Twilight Princess is one of the most formidable yet, coming in different-colored variants that stand in the way of Link and the imp-like Midna as they journey through the Temple of Time and Cave of Ordeals on their quest to restore peace to the Twilight Realm. The resulting battle against Darknuts in The Legend Of Zelda: Twilight Princess comes in two phases, the first of which requires Link to doge the hulking knight’s blows and break its armor away with strikes from his legendary Master Sword. Once the armor is completely removed, the Darknut trades its claymore for a smaller longsword and becomes more agile, making defeating it a much greater challenge for Link.

Reddit user and cosplayer Mar-X 1, who has previously posted impressive cosplays of characters like Mortal Kombat’s Cyber Sub-Zero, recently shared a few images of his version of The Legend Of Zelda: Twilight Princess’s Darknut on r/Zelda. This cosplay is based on the Darknut’s fully armored form, particularly the one Link and Midna encounter in the Temple of Time. In the comments section, Mar-X 1 explains that he made the Darknut's armor out of EVA foam, while the kilt-like skirt beneath the knight's armor is vinyl. He goes on to say that he wishes he was able to make the costume out of metal but notes that he is pleased with the end result all the same.

While the Darknut didn’t appear in 2017’s Nintendo Switch hit The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild, the fearsome knight could return in the planned follow-up. Not much is yet known about this Breath Of The Wild sequel, as it was notably absent from both December’s Game Awards 2021 livestream and the recent February Nintendo Direct. Recent rumors suggest that Nintendo might have other Legend Of Zelda games in the works as well and that even if Breath Of The Wild 2 is delayed from its planned release later this year, another Zelda title will at least be revealed in 2022.

This means that fans could see new versions of classic characters and enemies like The Legend Of Zelda: Twilight Princess’s Darknut, which in turn provides cosplayers with new inspirations to show off their costume-making skills. Mar-X 1 is one such talented fan, skillfully recreating the imposing armored visage of one of Link’s many fearsome enemies in an impressive level of detail.
