Pokémon GO Announces Sun & Moon Season of Alola Event

A new event has been announced for Pokémon GO that will bring more Generation 7 Pokémon to the game. The reveal was made during the 2022 February Pokémon Presents, celebrating Pokémon Day across numerous titles in the series. The content will likely be an exciting update for fans looking forward to warm-weather Pokémon GO gameplay and is a great follow-up for the recently concluded Johto Tour global event.

Alongside the Pokémon GO announcement, the February Pokémon Presents has revealed several exciting announcements for the Pokémon series to help fans celebrate the original release day of Pokémon Red and Green twenty-six years ago. Pokémon Legends: Arceus' Daybreak update will add new narrative and Mass Outbreak mechanics starting today, Pokémon Masters EX will receive new versions of Raihan and Skyla, and the highly anticipated Generation 9 reveal of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet has been announced, with a release date planned for late 2022. While fewer new games will release than last year, the announced content updates will likely keep players busy for the coming months.

As revealed in the trailer shown on The Official Pokémon YouTube Channel and the PokémonGoApp Twitter, the Season of Alola will bring further Generation 7 species to Pokémon GO. Currently, only Kantonian Pokémon with Alolan forms are present in the game, limiting what players are able to add to teams. Details about the event's contents are slim, but the reveal video shows Rowlet's feather hitting a tree, Popplio's bubbles floating through the air, and Litten's embers burning beach grass. According to PokémonGoLive, the event will span three months, with more details coming on February 28, 2022.

It was also detailed in the blog post on PokémonGoLive that a "Tropical Kickoff" event has gone live in Pokémon GO as of February 27, 2022, with Alolan Exeggutor available to catch in the wild with increased Shiny Odds. The duration of the event has not been announced, but it is likely the Alolan form of the palm-tree Pokémon will be available for at least several days, giving players plenty of opportunities to encounter it. The timing for the event is perfect, as the Johto Tour has just concluded, making the build-up to the new Season of Alola content an exciting segue into future adventures.

The upcoming March Pokémon GO events have also been announced, with the Season of Legends introducing Therian Formes of Thundurus, Tornadus, and Landorus starting March 1, and a Fletchling Community Day on March 6. While nothing has been confirmed for larger events later in March or the following months, it is likely the Seasons of Alola content will start to fill in the gaps. Hopefully, Pokémon GO will offer Limited Research opportunities similar to the Johto Tour pep rally, giving players a way to restock and prepare for content in the months to come.
