A seemingly fun rollercoaster ride in Grand Theft Auto Online suddenly turned into a chaotic nightmare straight out of Final Destination. Rockstar’s massively multiplayer online title has become a virtual playground for gamers in the years since it first launched alongside the blockbuster hit Grand Theft Auto 5 back in 2013, with plenty of strange glitches, wild stunts, and bizarre player-organized events spicing up life in the already colorful city of Los Santos.
Over the past few years, Grand Theft Auto Online players have waged city-wide gang wars dressed as aliens, hijacked jet planes straight out of the sky, and have even had their beds stollen by Grand Theft Auto 5’s Chop The Dog. While player interaction plays a big role in many of these GTA stunts, glitches do crop up from time to time. These glitches often lead to hilarious interactions, such as players suddenly being launched into the air or discovering GTA Online's Loch Ness Monster hiding in one of Los Santos’s parking lots.
Reddit user trujeezy4O2 recently invited some of their in-game friends to ride a virtual rollercoaster in Grand Theft Auto Online, but what started as a wholesome getaway quickly turned into a disaster. In a brief gameplay clip that trujeezy4O2 posted to the GTA Online subreddit (via Dexerto), the rollercoaster ride begins normally enough - until some of the passengers start to glitch and convulse right out of their seats. Eventually, players began falling out of the coaster in large numbers as it continues its ascent along the track until there was only one hapless rider still seated with his hands in the air.
Even with all of the sudden rollercoaster accidents, Grand Theft Auto Online has been a massive success for Rockstar Games with thousands of players logging into the digital world of Los Santos every week. 2021 was a pretty eventful year for GTA Online, with Rockstar adding new street race challenges and a story-focused expansion titled The Contract, which saw players team up with Grand Theft Auto 5 protagonist Franklin Clinton and featured music from noted rappers like Dr. Dre, Anderson .Paak, and Snoop Dog. 2022 seems to already be off to a promising start for GTA Online as well, with Rockstar quietly introducing a new Adversary mode featuring Franklin and Lamar.
Los Santos is already a chaotic and dangerous city thanks to all of the crime and gang violence that takes place within its streets, and it seems that Grand Theft Auto Online players can’t even ride the rollercoaster at their local amusement park without something going horrifically wrong. However, this uncertainty and tendency for wild things to happen during regular gameplay is a big part of what keeps Grand Theft Auto Online’s large player base coming back for more, as anything can and will happen in Los Santos.
