The Vulture appears in Marvel's Spider-Man as a member of the game's Sinister Six, and fans of the 2002 Spider-Man movie tie-in game will find him very familiar. Insomniac's open-world superhero adventure launched in 2018, and fans were immediately drawn to its authentic adaptation of the web-slinging hero and his world. The game draws heavily from past Spider-Man video games, including the beloved tie-ins to the Sam Raimi films Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2. Marvel's Spider-Man features multiple villains, but Vulture stands out as a particularly nostalgic inclusion.
The 2002 Spider-Man game loosely follows the plot of the classic film, which sees Tobey Maguire's Peter Parker transform into the titular wall-crawling hero and face off with Willem Dafoe's Green Goblin. However, the video game adaptation of the movie expands this story to include other rogues like Shocker, Scorpion, and Vulture. After robbing a jewelry store with Shocker, the high-flying Vulture escapes to a clocktower rigged with explosive traps and challenges players to reach the top. The encounter ends in a memorable mid-air brawl around the Chrysler Building, after which Vulture is defeated and left for the police.
While Insomniac made Doc Ock the primary villain in Marvel's Spider-Man, the open-world title also features other villains like Mr. Negative, Rhino, and Vulture. In the 2018 title Vulture is sprung from The Raft, a supervillain prison, to serve as a member of Doctor Octopus' Sinister Six. The player is attacked by Vulture after discovering Doc Ock's secret lair, leading to a two-on-one fight against the flying fiend and Electro. The dastardly duo is defeated, of course, and Vulture is absent from the rest of the game. Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales features Vulture, too, in the form of a boss fight against a training hologram designed by Peter. However, Spider-Man's voice actor Yuri Lowenthal hilariously voices this artificial approximation of the brutal bird instead of the villain's actual performer.

While obviously similar due to being two adaptations of the same character, Vulture in Marvel's Spider-Man and the 2002 Spider-Man movie tie-in game both share one particular quality: a voice actor. Dwight Schultz, an actor known for live-action projects like The A-Team and Star Trek, voices the villainous Vulture in both video game adaptations. This lends a nostalgic quality to Insomniac's version of the character, and Schultz's age in 2018 is a better match for Vulture's signature seniority than it was back in 2002. Pop culture fans may also recognize Dwight Schultz's voice acting from characters like Mung Daal from Chowder and Dr. Animo from Ben 10.
Dwight Schultz's voice work as Vulture in 2002's Spider-Man is extremely memorable, as it perfectly captured the character's cranky demeanor. It was wise for Insomniac to bring Schultz back as Vulture in Marvel's Spider-Man since the returning voice actor captures those same qualities and makes for a nostalgic performance. By distilling the best parts of various Spider-Man adaptations, Insomniac was able to make Marvel's Spider-Man a widely beloved version of the arachnid adventurer. Marvel's Spider-Man 2 will see Venom voiced by iconic Candyman actor Tony Todd, demonstrating a continued focus on supervillain vocals.
