Sons Of Anarchy: Why Opie Killed Stahl In Season 3 | Screen Rant

Sons of Anarchy saw many deaths – some of them quite unfair and heartbreaking, and others that were bound to happen, as was the murder of agent June Stahl by Opie Winston in season 3. Back in 2008, Kurt Sutter took the audience to the fictional town of Charming, California, and into the world of motorcycle clubs in the crime drama TV series Sons of Anarchy. The series was very well-received from the beginning, and it lived on for seven seasons, coming to an end in 2014 after many conflicts, betrayals, and deaths.

Leading the audience through the chaos in Charming and the Sons of Anarchy club is Jackson “Jax” Teller (Charlie Hunnam), VP of the club and the son of John “JT” Teller, one of the club’s founding members. The series kicks off when Jax finds the manifesto his father wrote in which he detailed his plans and vision for the club, which were the opposite of those of the current President (and Jax’s stepfather), Clay Morrow (Ron Perlman). This and other problems within the club and with others send Jax on a personal journey that makes him question many areas of his life, but luckily for Jax, he counted on the support of those closest to him, most notably his best friend Opie Winston (Ryan Hurst).

Opie had one of the toughest arcs in Sons of Anarchy as his story was marked by tragedy from the beginning with the accidental murder of his wife, Donna. Although Opie remarried and continued being a part of the club (as well as Jax’s best friend), Opie never fully recovered from that initial tragedy, and he met his fate in season 5. However, Opie left a mark on SAMCRO as he killed one of the club’s biggest enemies: agent June Stahl (Ally Walker), whose lies and games were what led to Donna’s death, and so killing her gave him his long-awaited revenge.

June Stahl joined Sons of Anarchy in its first season, as she was brought to Charming to look into a case involving SAMCRO and inter-state arms trafficking. Stahl was ambitious, arrogant, and cruel, and always looked after her own interests rather than doing the right thing. Stahl’s obsession with taking down SAMCRO started when Otto (Sutter) smashed her face into a table after she tried to get him to betray the club, and after that she targeted Opie, but he also refused to join her. As revenge, Stahl tricked Clay into thinking Opie ratted on the club, leading Clay to order Tig (Kim Coates) to kill Opie and frame the One-Niners. However, Opie wasn’t driving the truck as expected and it was Donna instead, and as Tig didn’t notice, he ended up killing Donna. Opie learned the truth in Sons of Anarchy season 2 and threatened to kill Stahl, but he let her live. Unfortunately, Stahl continued her efforts to break SAMCRO, which reached a boiling point in season 3.

Jax and the rest of SAMCRO were able to trick Stahl in Sons of Anarchy season 3, mostly as her career was in decline, and though she tried to break the club one last time, the crew was one step ahead. With the help of Wayne Unser (Dayton Callie), Chibs killed Jimmy O’Phelan and Opie killed Stahl in her car, similarly to how Donna was killed, telling Stahl “this is what she felt”. Although Opie got his revenge, he continued to struggle with getting his life back on track, and he ended up dying to save his brothers. Opie was one of Sons of Anarchy most beloved characters thanks to his loyalty and good heart, and he was in charge of the death of one of the show’s most hated characters.
