The Simpsons Season 33 Finale Clip Reveals Hugh Jackman's Musical Role

A clip from The Simpsons' season 33 finale shows Hugh Jackman's musical role. The most recent season premiered in September 2021 and came to an end on May 22. Like all previous seasons of the show, The Simpsons season 33 featured a number of well-known guest stars, including Kristen Bell, Victor Garber, and Glenn Close. Just before the finale, it was announced Jackman would play a singing janitor in the episode.

Jackman is no stranger to musical numbers. A theatre veteran who's known for roles in Oklahoma!Carousel, and currently The Music Man, Jackman has carried his musical talents into film and TV many times before. He starred as Jean Valjean in Tom Hooper's Les Misérables and more recently played P.T. Barnum in the slow-burning hit The Greatest Showman. Though he's appeared in a variety of different genres over his long career in Hollywood, Jackman's musical skills are well-known, making him a great fit for a Simpsons musical number.

As seen in the season 33 finale and shared on The Simpsons' official Twitter account, Jackman made his debut as a janitor who, in true Simpsons fashion, sings about the American middle class. Check out a clip from the episode where Jackman's character meets Bart below:

In the past, Jackman has shown his willingness to participate in more comedic songs. He's gamely contributed to a number of them while hosting awards shows like the Tonys and Oscars. He brought the same level of commitment to The Simpsons' season 33 finale, making the song even more of a show stopper than it would have been with someone else in the role. Jackman ensured the latest season went out with a bang while also offering the same smart humor viewers have come to expect from the show.

Though season 33 is now over, The Simpsons will be back with more episodes in a few months, as it received a double season renewal back in March 2021. It's hard to know for sure if Jackman's singing janitor will return at some point in the next season. However, if it works with the actor's schedule, it would be exciting to see him come back for another episode of the show, especially if he gets to do an equally humorous musical number. The Simpsons often invites guest actors back, so it stands to reason Jackman's janitor could make another appearance. Luckily, the show isn't going anywhere anytime soon, so there will be plenty of opportunities for Jackman to reprise his role going forward.
