Is Colleen Wing The New Iron Fist After Season 2? | Screen Rant

Iron Fist season 2 set up the possibility of a new Iron Fist in the form of Colleen Wing. It was a season centered around choice – who chose to wield the Fist and why. The season fixed the problems of what many considered Marvel Netflix's worst show and raised the stakes dramatically for the third season that never came. Throughout his run, Danny Rand (Finn Jones) struggled with the power bestowed upon him, and his conflict with his brother Davos taught him that he was not ready to continue wielding the power of the Fist. When Davos successfully gained this power through an elaborate and complicated ritual, it seemed as though all might be lost.

For this reason, Danny transferred the power over to Colleen Wing (Jessica Henwick), a long-time ally and soldier of the Hand, in the season finale. Fans were overjoyed to see Wing assume the Fist, as her arc with Misty Knight was considered one of the best parts of the show. Her skills as a warrior had already been proven, but it was her defeat of Davos that finally earned her the mantle in this surprise twist.

It was evident that Jessica Henwick, star of many movies and shows, was meant to continue as the new Iron Fist, with or without Finn Jones at her side. The fact that the Fist manifested in its own color suggested the possibility of her having an entirely new set of powers, different from what had been seen before. However, the cancellation of this mildly-received Netflix show and all of Netflix’s Marvel properties left much up in the air, with fans clamoring for answers as to who will be brought back in the new Disney shows and whether their storylines can be as compelling as what came before.

Henwick herself has expressed mixed feelings about the possibility of being one of the Marvel Netflix actors coming back to the MCU. In a recent interview (via Syfy Wire), she stated that she was “torn” about reprising her role in Iron Fist, as she felt “passionate about her story” but “just wants her to have a happy ending.” She feels that this is where Wing had been left, after pairing up with Misty Knight and starting the journey to find herself through this new power and the responsibility that comes with it.

However, it can be argued that the finale of Iron Fist left Colleen Wing in prime position for a spin-off of her own. Kevin Fiege has made comments regarding certain actors reprising their roles in the future, so the question becomes whether Colleen Wing or Danny Rand can return in any capacity. With Wing, however, there was arguably greater potential for her character. In the comics, she formed the Daughters of the Dragon, which was set up by The Defenders and has room to detach itself from the Marvel series that has garnered the least favorable critical response. Although Iron Fist season 2 deviated from the comics by bestowing the power upon her, the opportunities provided by her being a new Iron Fist could generate interesting friction between her and Misty Knight as Daughters of the Dragon.

Either way, for Jessica Henwick, the future looks bright. The Iron Fist star has since had roles in Game of Thrones and Star Wars and can be seen in both The Gray Man and Knives Out 2 in 2022. Only time will tell whether Colleen Wing will make a return as the new Iron Fist and how her character might fit into the MCU as it currently stands. It would certainly be compelling to see her cross paths with some of the finest warriors in the universe, especially Shang-Chi, or how she might find new life in the multiverse.
