Titans has yet to have a proper crossover with another DC series, and an upcoming Arrowverse-adjacent show would be a much better option than the originally planned Crisis on Infinite Earth’s Titans heroes' appearance. Although the Titans did appear in the Crisis on Infinite Earth’s crossover, their role in the Arrowverse event was limited to blink-and-miss cameos. While that made Titans an official part of DC TV’s multiverse, more specifically the representative of Earth-9, no further connections between the show and the Arrowverse have then occurred.
The very conception of the Titans series has caused it to be separated from the rest of the Arrowverse. Unlike shows like Black Lightning and the recently canceled Batwoman - which were made for the CW and thus managed to crossover with other shows of the network more easily - Titans was envisioned as a streaming-exclusive series for the now-dissolved DC Universe streaming platform. Titans was supposed to be the DC Universe’s flagship show, and thus it had to have an overall look and budget that stood out from other DC shows. Although the DC Universe platform is now limited to comic books only, Titans remained as a streaming title, now an HBO Max original.
When discussing possible crossovers with the Arrowverse, Titans' Nightwing actor Brenton Thwaites revealed that he declined an offer to have a proper role in the Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover event. For the actor, there was not really a story-related reason to connect Titans with the other shows, and thus it would not make sense to sacrifice all the things that make Titans different – not necessarily better or worse – only for a shocking, fun moment. However, when asked about a possible crossover with CW’s upcoming Gotham Knights show, Thwaites admitted that it would actually be a cool idea. Despite seemly contradictory, Thwaites’ remarks make a lot of sense. Unlike most of the other Arrowverse shows involved in the Crisis on Infinite Earths event, Gotham Knights has a lot in common with Titans, as they both feature Batman’s former sidekicks as major parts of the story. In fact, Gotham Knights, which may not feature Batman in a large capacity, will be about the Dark Knight's adoptive son and students teaming up to protect the city and find out who’s behind Batman’s murder. Instead of a crossover that simply puts together different DC heroes to fight a big threat, a Titans and Gotham Knights link could serve both stories and create a connection between different Batman’s sidekicks.
What is curious is that, so far, none of the Gotham Knights’ announced main characters have Titans counterparts. This means that, while unlikely given the different creative teams and platforms, Gotham Knights could very well be set in the Titans’ universe. Even if that is not the case, a crossover between Gotham Knights and Titans would still be possible, given all the universe-traveling possibilities that the Arrowverse and its multiverse rules have introduced. Despite the fantastical element of a portal connecting different worlds, a Titans and Gotham Knights crossover could be a grounded story focused on how differently the experiences of these Batman’s apprentices have been and on what things they have in common.
Despite working fine as its own, separated thing, Titans has created such an extensive universe of characters and events that a crossover with something like Gotham Knights could be interesting. Having Nightwing and Starfire fighting along with heroes like Flash and Supergirl in Crisis on Infinite Earths would undeniably be fun, but it would not really add much in terms of the story – especially for Titans. If Titans should really crossover with other DC TV series, then the upcoming Gotham Knights is what makes the most sense in terms of what could work for both shows.
