For better or worse, part of what comes with being a successful voice actor is anonymity. The most prolific voice actors lend their talents to hundreds of cartoons, but audiences may never know their faces or names. Still, there are some voices in animated shows and movies that stick out for their memorable quality, whether it's because their voices are so unique or because the actor is well-known enough from their live-action work that their voice is unmistakable.
Reddit users have identified the animation actors with the most distinct or recognizable voices, hailing those who have made an impact on their viewing experiences.

Dante Basco has been acting since 1988, and he’s found a place in voice work, earning roles in several animated shows and movies. Some of his most prominent roles include Zuko in Avatar: The Last Airbender and Jake Long in American Dragon: Jake Long.
Many Reddit users name Dante Basco as having the most recognizable voice. Pineappletarzan says “I’ve watched way too much Avatar: The Last Airbender not to recognize Dante Basco’s voice every time I hear him.” The_dog_says adds “he occasionally pops up on his YT videos and his voice doesn’t match his voice.” When fans hear his voice, they envision their favorite characters, which should serve as a testament to his talent.

J.K. Simmons may be best known for his contribution to the Spider-Man film franchise with his role as Spider-man’s rival J. Jonah Jameson, but he’s also known for his voice work. He voices Warden in Megamind, Ford Pines in Gravity Falls, the titular character in Klaus, and Tenzin in The Legend of Korra.
Simmons tends to use his distinct voice in animated projects. Of his role of Lenny Turtletaub in Bojack Horseman, Riqhteousness says “All I heard was Tenzin from The Legend of Korra and Omni-Man from Invincible.” Not many actors can thrive in both live-action and animation. TheObstruction says “He’s one of the screen actors who can make that switch well.” The proof is found in the various awards he’s won, both in live-action and animated projects.

Owen Wilson has a more prominent career in live-action work, taking more roles in comedic classics like Zoolander and Meet The Parents, than roles in animated features. However, his presence in the Cars movies and Free Birds has given him a fair step into animation.
Owen Wilson’s voice has become a meme. The way he says words like ‘wow’ and ‘kachow’ are mimicked in pop culture. Under a thread about recognizable voices, Reddit user Crooked_parallel says “I haven’t seen [Cars] in probably a decade but all of a sudden I can hear Lightning McQueen with [Owen Wilson’s] voice.” Several other Redditors such as foreignern3r simply write out ‘wow’ under this thread, indicating how iconic this line is in Owen Wilson’s voice.

Like Owen Wilson, Tom Hanks’ career in animation began when he starred in a Disney Pixar film. Before his role as Woody in Toy Story—one of his greatest characters yet—Hanks was already widely known for his roles in Forrest Gump and Saving Private Ryan. In 2004, he took on The Polar Express in which he voiced most of the characters.
Reddit user washyourhands— says “there’s just something in his voice where you know it. Especially when he yells.” Nayzo notes “When my husband and I went and saw The Simpsons Movie in theaters, I instantly recognized his voice (his animation doesn’t appear until after he starts speaking.)” Tom Hanks has won 91 awards, including a Life Achievement Award from the American Film Institute and the Best International Film for The Polar Express.

Known to many fans for his roles in Rocky Horror Picture Show and Home Alone: Lost In New York, Tim Curry’s resume of acting credits is heavily made up of animated projects. He lends his voice to Wild Thornberrys as Nigel Thornberry and Randy Cunningham: 9th Grade Ninja as the Sorcerer in addition to various Barbie, Scooby-Doo, and Rugrats properties.
Tim Curry has been in a large number of animated projects. Snape_waifu394 says “I could genuinely listen to his voice all day! And he shows up in the weirdest places. A little while back, I was watching The Little Mermaid series with headphones and had just watched an episode he was in. Then I took off my headphones only to hear his voice again because my husband was watching Clone Wars.”

Keith David started acting in 1979 and he’s been going strong ever since. He has played roles in an endless amount of films and shows. Some of his most famous roles are Goliath in the Gargoyles, the Cat in Coraline, and Dr. Facilier in The Princess & The Frog.
Reddit user brooklyn11218 is adamant that Keith David should be at the top of this list, stating “No voice is more instantly recognizable than Goliath himself.” David’s talent has not gone unnoticed, however, as he’s won 3 Emmys for Outstanding Voice-over Performance. PoliteIndecency expresses their love of Keith David, saying “When you got a voice that sounds like silky smooth gravel in a bass drum, you use it. One of the most unique voices out there.”

Will Arnett has thrived in animation for years before many people even knew who Will Arnett was. While he may be most well known for his recent roles in The Lego Movie franchise and one of Netflix’s top adult animated series, Bojack Horseman, he has also voiced the Missing Link in Monsters Vs Aliens, Vlad in Horton Hears A Who, and Horst from Ratatouille.
Arnett has even voiced a chocolatey treat in commercials. Spavolka points out “Will Arnett is Reese’s, GMC trucks, Legos... He seems like a busy man.” Now that the world knows Arnett because of his recent projects, it is easy to recognize his voice immediately in everything he has done. For example, AtarkaCommand says they “recently re-watched the Christmas episode of Danny Phantom... Finding out [Will Arnett] voiced the ghost writer was such a great surprise and made the episode much better.”

Chris Parnell has one of the most recognizable voices in animation. He is possibly most famous for bringing Jerry to life in Rick & Morty and his role as Cyril Figgis in Archer. He has also been a part of several projects made for kids, including the Hotel Transylvania movies.
Parnell has certainly made an impact on the world of animation and those who appreciate his work. Lunchboxeseverywhere says “He is also on a bunch of Disney children shows and it's sooo hard to explain to my 6 year old why I get so excited.” His voice is very recognizable, however, unless audiences know him for his time on Saturday Night Live, they may not put a name to the voice. As daitenshe says, “everybody knows Chris Parnell but not everybody knows they know who Chris Parnell is.”

With one of the most recognizable voices in the industry, Kristen Schaal has had a hand in some of Hollywood’s most acclaimed animated projects. Her most well-known roles may be Louise in Bob’s Burgers, Mabel Pines in Gravity Falls, and Sarah Lynn in Bojack Horseman.
Hype for Kristen Schaal’s voice is immense on Reddit. SN4FUS states “she’s got about the most distinctive voice in the business” while MysticMania adds “Her voice is great too, I don’t think I’ve ever not enjoyed it.” Schall almost always uses the same voice for all her characters. Skelebone makes this observation clear, saying “Mabel Pines is Louise Belcher is Sarah Lynn is Jake Jr.” Because of this, silenttd says her voice is “really easy to pick up on.”

Few voice actors have a voice as recognizable as Patrick Warburton. Whether audiences first heard him in Family Guy, Bee Movie, or Emperor’s New Groove, his voice stuck with them. Warburton is also in Hoodwinked as the wolf, Open Season as Ian, and The Venture Bros as Brock Samson.
Like Kristen Schaal, Warburton uses the same voice for all his roles. EhMapleMoose says that though this may be the case, “he does it incredibly well and his charisma is unmatched.” Redditors make it a point that Warburton deserves the top spot as the most recognizable voice actor. Niccin says “yeah, as recognizable as most people’s voices are, this is the voice that stood out to me in every single thing he was in.”
