Warning! Spoilers ahead for Thor: Love and Thunder
While her appearances were brief in Thor: Love and Thunder, Lady Sif's final scene is secretly perfect. Played by Jaimie Alexander, Lady Sif has been an ally to the God of Thunder in the MCU since the very first Thor film. However, she's also one of the most underutilized Asgardian characters to date considering her significance in the comics. That being said, Thor: Love and Thunder's ending subtly recognizes her comics history while potentially giving her a greater role in the future.
Thanks to her absence in Thor: Ragnarok (due to scheduling conflicts), Jaimie Alexander's Lady Sif was spared from Hela's slaughter on Asgard that resulted in the deaths of the Warriors Three. However, Thor: Love and Thunder reveals that Lady Sif was attacked by the villain Gorr the God Butcher during his quest to end all gods in the universe. Her arm having been cut off by Gorr's Necrosword, Sif was rescued by Thor and Korg and taken back to New Asgard on Earth. Unfortunately, few details were provided about where Sif has been since she was last seen in Thor: The Dark World — no to mention her appearances on the barely-canon TV series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
With her spending the majority of the film off-screen in recovery, Lady Sif's role in Thor: Love and Thunder is no more than a cameo that simply gives Thor a reason to return to New Asgard. However, the consolation is that Sif is seen at the film's end training the next generation of Asgardians, specifically Heimdall's son Axl, who has inherited his late father's gift of the All-Sight. It's very satisfying to see Sif teaching Axl how to hone his abilities considering recent comics where Sif has become the newest Bifrost Guardian of Asgard.
While the connection is never made in the MCU, Lady Sif and Heimdall are siblings in the comics, making Axl her nephew. Likewise, Sif claimed the Bifrost Sword Hofund after her brother's death following 2019's War of the Realms crossover event. As such, Lady Sif gained the All-Sight and has been controlling the powerful Bifrost for the last few years in the Marvel universe. While Thor's ax, Stormbreaker, has essentially taken the place of Hofund in the MCU, it would still be cool to see Axl coming into a greater role in a possible Thor 5 after having been trained by Lady Sif.
Lady Sif has hardly been given the spotlight she deserves in the MCU. However, it's good to see Thor: Love and Thunder subtly recognizing her significance in the comics through her training of Axl at the film's end. Here's hoping Sif and Axl will join the God of Thunder in a greater capacity in a future Thor adventure.
