There are eight stages currently available in MultiVersus, and some have variants depending on the match settings and the number of players participating. This fighting game can be played offline and online, and there are various settings to select in order to set up a match. Choosing a stage can be done in custom games, and the map will be selected randomly from the choices that players check off in the menu.
Including the variants, players will have 11 different stages to try out in various game types. Unlike the unlockable characters in MultiVersus, the stages are actually all available at the start of the game. However, the available stages will depend on match settings, so there will be a limited number of options on the stage selection screen after determining the number of players and the parameters for the fight.
There are a few different match setups that determine the available stages. Matches can be set up as free for all, 2v2, or 1v1, so there can be either two or four characters in a match. Along with the game mode, players can also choose the number of ringouts to win, the time limit, and all possible stages. Some maps are only available for 1v1 matches, and others require four participants to use. The stage will be random unless players only check off only one map in the selection menu.
Every stage is related to one of the characters included in MultiVersus at launch. The stages have a varying number of platforms, only some of which are thin enough to fall through. Additionally, stages can have certain objects to take advantage of, like moving platforms, and there are even secret transformations that can be triggered through environmental interactions. For example, the walls can be broken in Scooby's Haunted Mansion, and there are levers in the top left and right corners that will cause pieces of the floor to disappear. Both transformations give players more options for knocking opponents out. To gain access to specific stages, players will need to choose the right match parameters.
