Move Over Avengers - Marvel's South Korean Superteam Launches New Series

The biggest Marvel Comics superhero team in South Korea, Tiger Division, are launching their own limited comic series this November! For decades, the Avengers have been known as the Earth's Mightiest Heroes as they seek to defend the world from great threats that one hero alone can't take on. From worldwide threats like Ultron to universe-shattering villains like Thanos, the team has become well-known for thinking quick and working together to save the day. However, this doesn't mean that they can be everywhere at once. There are limits that even the biggest heroes like Captain America and Iron Man can reach, hence why there are other superhero teams across the universe to keep the peace.

One of these unique teams is Tiger Division, a superhero team based in South Korea. First appearing in Taskmaster Vol. 3 #3 in 2021, the group is maintained by Nick Fury-like director White Fox. Together, they work to stave off threats against South Korea and the world while being watched by the National Intelligence Service. Now, over a year later, the team is back and launching in a miniseries of their own headed by the all-star creative team of Emily Kim and Creees Lee.

According to Marvel in a press release after making their announcement at San Diego Comic-Con, Tiger Division #1 will be the first entry of a five-issue miniseries. In this new comic, Marvel fans will be introduced to the members of the superteam that will surely become new favorites among a plethora of Marvel heroes. Taegukgi leads the group as the powerhouse head of the team with a heart of gold. Working with him are team members like a street-brawling demigod named Mr. Enigma, a card-wielding sorceress named Lady Bright, a living totem named the General and the destined-to-be-fan-favorite android with an attitude named Gun-R II. With the team side-by-side with fan favorite heroes like the shape-shifting White Fox and Luna Snow, they form the Tiger Division and are ready to take on any danger!

Emily Kim, writer of the most recent run of Silk, is picking up the pen for this new series. She's joined by artist Creees Lee who worked on this year's Marauders Annual. They will also be joined by artists Ron Lim, Artgerm, Junggeun Yoon and Peach Momoko who will design various variant covers. Not much is known right now as to who will be the first big bad that Tiger Division will face after facing Taskmaster when he copied Ant-Man's powers, but with a team like this handled by such talented writers and artists, it's sure to be a bombastic debut. When asked about her time working on the first big story for the South Korean team, Kim said:

As a lifelong fan of comics, I never thought I'd get the chance to write for an all-Korean group. Hopefully it's not the last and there will be many more Tiger Division stories to come.

Tiger Division #1 is expected to hit comic store shelves on November 3, 2022. Fans can talk with their local comic shops about pre-ordering to add this exciting debut to their collection. Any fan of Silk will be eager to pick this book up, given the deep characterization and action available in its pages. Tiger Division have a big journey ahead of them as they prove themselves among the vast sea of other heroes in the Marvel Comics universe, but with am all-star creative team, they assuredly have a bright future.
