The Nun 2 Producer James Wan Confirms Return of Valak Actor

James Wan confirms the return of Valak actor for The Nun 2. The upcoming film follows 2018's The Nun, a gothic supernatural horror film that takes place in the same universe as 2013's The Conjuring; more specifically, the film is a prequel/spin-off to The Conjuring 2, which premiered in 2016. Each of these films is included in what is now referred to as "The Conjuring Universe."

The Nun, directed by Corin Hardy and adapted from a story by Wan and Gary Dauberman, follows a priest and nun in 1952 Romania as they uncover demonic forces within the Roman Catholic church. The most haunting shape these forces take is that of the malicious Demon Nun, an incarnation of the legendary demon Valak. Following the overwhelming success of the film, a sequel to The Nun was announced, with Akela Cooper as scriptwriter and Wan and Peter Safran confirmed as co-producing the film.

A recent Instagram post from Wan provides more details surrounding The Nun 2, revealing that the actor who plays Valak, Bonnie Aarons, will be returning for the sequel. The post features a grinning Wan pointing at the camera, with Arron in full, creepy Valak make-up and costume leering over him with her ghostly hands around his neck – a gesture Wan cheekily refers to in his post as Bonnie "haunting" him on the set of The Conjuring 2.

The Los Angeles-born actor, 63, made a name for herself in Hollywood with her distinctive theatrical talent and striking features, appearing as "The Bum" in Mulholland Drive and as Baroness Joy von Troken in The Princess Diaries before first originating the role of the Valak in The Conjuring 2. In addition to confirming Aaron's upcoming re-appearance as the terrifyingly iconic Demon Nun, Wan's post also proudly announces that director Michael Chaves will also be returning to The Conjuring Universe. Chaves previously directed The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It and The Curse of La Llorona.

Wan serves as a reliable source not only for exciting updates on The Conjuring Universe and all its gruesome, intricate cinematic creepiness but for the horror world itself – the Australian director has indeed been an important and consistently buzzworthy household name in the genre for almost two decades now. Wan co-created the wildly popular Saw and Insidious movies, both of which would go on to become massively successful, genre-defining franchises. His The Conjuring franchise, of which The Nun 2 will be a part, is the second-highest-grossing horror film franchise of all time, second only to the Godzilla series. Wan's impressive track record combined with the deeply creepy and effectively lingering image of Aaron's Demon Nun/Valak promise that The Nun 2 will terrify and entertain moviegoers as much as its frightful predecessors.
