The massively popular battle royale, Fortnite, is known for having some wild crossovers with other IPs, however, no crossover would be bigger than a Star Wars one for next season. Considering the dates line-up between the release of the Kenobi series on Disney+ and Fortnite's Chapter 3 Season 3, a Star Wars-themed season does seem likely. There have also been leaks of characters like Darth Vader showing up on Fortnite, similar to how the Mandalorian, Din Djarin, appeared back in Chapter 2, Season 5. There have also been rumors of lightsabers making a return to the island. Epic Games could be preparing for a major Star Wars battle pass similar to Chapter 2, Season 4's Marvel crossover.
Fortnite has had many major crossovers with multiple IPs since it launched in 2018. From Marvel to Borderlands to even musical icons like Ariana Grande, Fortnite can call itself the only game where so many of these figures and characters can come together in one massive setting. Iconic items and gadgets as well as characters have also been introduced, which have gone on to affect gameplay. One example of this was last season when Epic added Spider-Man web-shooters into the game, which drastically changed its gameplay and mobility. Fortnite's biggest crossovers have been Marvel-based, with the publisher dominating an entire battle pass previously.
With The Mandalorian and the upcoming Kenobi on Disney+, Star Wars is showing no signs of slowing down even without the release of a new film in two years. Following the release of Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker in 2019, Fortnite has included big-name characters from the Disney+ TV shows like Boba Fett and the Mandalorian as skins and even bosses to fight against on the island. It would make sense for Epic to plan something huge for the release of the highly anticipated Kenobi series.
Rumors indicate that Darth Vader will not only be visiting Fortnite's island as a playable Star Wars skin but also as a boss players can fight for loot. This would likely be similar to Chapter 2, Season 5's Mandalorian, whose Razor Crest ship crash-landed on the map. Players would enter this shipwreck area to find the bounty hunter patrolling the scene, and could defeat him to attain his iconic jetpack and Amban phase-pulse blaster rifle. Although unconfirmed, a Vader boss could function similarly to the duel with Din Djarin, with players potentially being able to acquire elements of the Dark Lord of the Sith's wardrobe and kit, such as his cape, lightsaber, or parts of his armor.
Since Fortnite/Star Wars crossover would also include Darth Vader as a skin, it would make sense for his kit to include a cape back bling, a pickaxe, and even a glider. The glider could potentially be the TIE Advanced he was first seen using in 1977's Star Wars. Vader's pickaxe could even be the game's first lightsaber harvesting tool. While this would make sense, Fortnite has been known to give some crossover skins some strange harvesting tools. A good example of this would be Arcane's Vi, who saw a crossover with Fortnite recently but got Jayce's hammer as a harvesting tool rather than her own iconic gauntlets.
Another thing that could be returning to Fortnite is lightsabers. Originally introduced in 2019 for Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker, the weapons have only been brought back to the island once. This was in May 2020 to celebrate Star Wars Day. Lightsabers were powerful weapons in Fortnite that could even two-hit enemies at times. It would make sense for Epic Games to bring the iconic weapons back to the game not only for Star Wars Day but also for the release of Kenobi.
Lightsabers could also be returning to Fortnite in more ways than one. They could be included as purchasable pickaxes that players can use indefinitely once lightsabers are eventually taken out of the game again. After Fortnite released its No-Build mode, some players ended up returning to the game. Adding in the iconic sci-fi weapons along with a major Star Wars crossover would be a great way to ensure more end up staying.
In the same spirit of the Marvel-themed Chapter 2, Season 4, Fortnite could make its next season completely Star Wars-themed. Fortnite's new battle pass could include big-name heroes and villains in the Star Wars universe as skins, like Han Solo and Ahsoka Tano. Obi-Wan Kenobi could be a tier 1 skin with customizable styles, just in time for his TV series to release, and Darth Vader himself could even be a tier 100 skin. Fortnite's next battle pass could be a massive celebration of Star Wars. The map could change too and have some iconic Star Wars locations like Mos Eisley and the swamps of Dagobah scattered throughout the island. Epic could even add new vehicles like TIE fighters and X-wings for some dogfighting action in the skies.
Another way lightsabers could be included in the game is by adding a customizable one players can make with the battle pass. Fortnite has recently implemented customizable items into its battle passes, allowing players to unlock new styles and parts for their glider, skin, or harvesting tool. The battle pass would be a great way for players to build their own lightsaber, choosing their own color, hilts, and even ignite animation. This could be in the same spirit as Fortnite's current season's Omni Sword item, which is also a customizable harvesting tool.
Fortnite has had some grand crossovers with multiple IPs. With May 4 coming up as well as the release of the Kenobi series on Disney+, it would make sense for its next season to double down on Star Wars crossover items. As leaks of Darth Vader and lightsabers coming to the island keep pouring in, it may only be a matter of time before players get to see a new trailer featuring the iconic sci-fi series coming to the island once again.
