Advance Wars 1+2 Re-Boot Camp Fan Accidentally Plays Game Early

One lucky Nintendo Switch player was able to access Advance Wars: 1+2 Re-Boot Camp on their console, thanks to a feature on the E-Shop. The game was set to release on April 8, 2022, but due to recent events between Russia and Ukraine and the themes that the Advance Wars titles are based upon, Nintendo decided to indefinitely postpone the launch. Fans who were looking forward to the game were upset but understood the reasoning behind the decision.

Advance Wars: 1+2 Re-Boot Camp is a turn-based strategy game where players are in charge of a military outlet. Players, assuming the role of a Commanding Officer, must make decisions about where and when to send tanks and troops in order to advance to the next level and defeat enemy troops. In Re-Boot Camp the game will remain very similar to the original titles, but there are many new experiences that will be offered as well. There will be customizable maps, a multiplayer mode where players can compete with each other, and potentially an online mode. The developers have also overhauled the 2D graphics to bring new 3D graphics to Re-Boot Camp.

Nintendo Everything reported that Twitter user killetheth had been able to access Re-Boot Camp and even play through some missions. According to the tweet, killetheth had pre-loaded the game onto their Nintendo Switch Lite and received a notification that they were able to play the game on April 8th, the date it was supposed to release. She shared videos and screencaps of the gameplay to prove that she was actually playing the game and not just using footage from elsewhere. The video shared was only a tutorial, but the 3D graphics looked crisp and the gameplay looked like it will be a close remake of the originals. There were no examples of the multiplayer mode shown, nor the custom maps Re-Boot will offer, but the video is an exciting first look nonetheless.

On April 10th, killetheth tweeted that Nintendo emailed her saying that they had canceled her pre-order and were refunding her the money. She mentioned that she had followed the advice of others and turned her Switch on airplane mode, but said that if the game was refunded then playing it would be theft, so her decision to stop playing will be based on that factor. In the replies, other Twitter users were unsure about whether or not killetheth was telling the truth about her situation. People mentioned that pre-loading is not usually available until much closer to the game's release and killetheth said she had pre-loaded it before the decision to postpone the Re-Boot in early March. Other commenters stood up for killetheth and said they had noticed the pre-load was available in March before the delay was announced. Pre-loads for Nintendo games are not uncommon, but other fans are still questioning the legitimacy of her story. Regardless, killetheth was extremely lucky to be able to play this game.

While players wait for the announcement of when they can play Advance Wars: 1+2 Re-Boot Camp they will have to turn to other strategy games on the Switch. Fans can also play through the original versions of the two games on the Game Boy Advance or Nintendo DS, but hopefully they won't have to rely on the old version for much longer.
