Total Film has offered fans a new look at Obi-Wan's lightsaber and costume in Disney+'s Obi-Wan Kenobi series through two upcoming magazine covers. The widely-anticipated Star Wars spin-off series is set to debut on Disney's streaming service on May 27, 2022. The series will see Ewan McGregor physically return to the role for the first time since 2005's Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith.
Taking place between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, Obi-Wan Kenobi sees McGregor return to his beloved Star Wars role during one of the darkest periods in the history of the galaxy far, far away. The Jedi Order has fallen, with any surviving members of the Jedi order being hunted by Darth Vader (Hayden Christensen) and his groups of Inquisitors. Forced to step out of the shadows, McGregor must take up his saber once more, bringing him face-to-face with Darth Vader. As Lucasfilm and Disney prepare to launch the series in May, a pair of upcoming magazine covers have given fans their best glimpse at the Jedi master in exile.
On his personal Twitter, Walt Disney Studio's President of Marketing Asad Ayaz shared two covers for issue #324 of Total Film magazine before it hits shelves on April 28. The magazine coves feature Obi-Wan Kenobi as its primary focus, with the standard cover depicting the exiled Jedi master in his new outfit amongst a nighttime cityscape. On the cover, Obi-Wan seems to have mostly abandoned his Jedi robes in favor of a more simple tunic, save for his brown cloak and belt. Meanwhile, the subscriber-exclusive cover focuses on Obi-Wan's lightsaber, offering a close-up of the weapon on a smoky background. Check out the covers below:
Ahead of his return to the Star Wars galaxy, McGregor revisited the Skywalker Saga by rewatching the nine main Star Wars films to immerse himself in the galaxy again ahead before donning his robes once more. The actor admitted that it had been his first time revisiting the saga since the films had their initial release, stating that he found it cool and interesting to rewatch each installment without the noise and discussion surrounding them. Christensen also took it upon himself to revisit the galaxy before returning to play Vader, stating in an interview that he watched both the Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars: Rebels to familiarize himself with Anakin's further adventures.
Total Film's recent covers have offered fans their best look at Obi-Wan's new costume to date, revealing the Jedi Master's more inconspicuous outfit. With the Empire on the rise to power throughout the series and Obi-Wan facing a crisis of faith, the Jedi Master's new outfit trades the iconic Jedi robes for something more like typical Tatooine attire to avoid Imperial eyes. While McGregor's Jedi will be forced to ignite the saber once more, Obi-Wan Kenobi promises to take the character journey on his most personal journey.
