What Happened To Boba Fett After The Tuskens Were Killed

Warning! Spoilers ahead of The Book of Boba Fett episode 3.

Lucasfilm's The Book of Boba Fett revealed the tragic death of Boba Fett's Tusken Raiders' tribe at the hands of the Nikto gang, setting up his solitary life on Tatooine. Shown as part of a series of flashbacks, the moment sets up the character's previous appearance in The Mandalorian. However, questions still remain over exactly what happened to Boba Fett in the interim.

Temuera Morrison returned to Star Wars to play the fan-favorite bounty hunter via The Mandalorian season 2. Now, he stars in his own spin-off series, The Book of Boba Fett, which tackles his quest to establish himself as Mos Espa's new crime lord while also revealing his immediate fate after surviving the sarlacc pit. Like its parent series, The Book of Boba Fett was created by Jon Favreau for Disney+. The show will consist of seven episodes, and as it slowly inches near its narrative midpoint, it continues to reveal more of its titular character's life prior to his Star Wars re-emergence in The Mandalorian season 2. As he and his trusted ally, Fennec Shand (Ming-Na Wen) work to fully claim Jabba the Hutt's territory. But perhaps more than his present time arc, his previous adventures with the Tusken Raiders are more intriguing as it fills narrative gaps in his Star Wars story.

However, now that Boba Fett's Tusken Raiders tribe is dead, it's curious what comes next for the character. His survival from the sarlacc pit and subsequent time with the Tusken Raiders takes place shortly after Return of the Jedi in 4ABY (After the Battle of Yavin). He didn't resurface until The Mandalorian season 2, which was set during 9ABY. Boba Fett only returned to Tatooine to claim Jabba the Hutt's turf when Grogu was handed to Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), which means that The Book of Boba Fett's present story is set closer to 10ABY. Based on that, there are around 5-6 years between the death of the Tusken Raiders tribe and Boba Fett's current power play in Tatooine. According to Star Wars canon, Boba Fett mainly stayed in Tatooine during this period. When he appeared at the end of The Mandalorian season 2 premiere, he was still carrying his gaffi stick and Tusken Cycler, and wearing his Tusken Raiders garb. It isn't outside the realm of possibility that Boba Fett decided to silently keep an eye on other Tusken Raiders tribes on the planet after the murder of his own.

It's worth remembering that in the same episode of The Mandalorian, Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) teamed up with Cobb Vanth (Timothy Olyphant) and a group of Tusken Raiders to take down the dangerous Krayt dragon. It's also safe to say that Boba Fett had been observing Mos Pelgo for a while since he knew that Cobb was in possession of his bounty hunter suit. Finally, the fact that he was able to spot Fennec laying lifeless on the dunes implied that he'd been lurking around Tatooine.

Whether or not the death of Boba Fett's Tusken Raiders tribe ends The Book of Boba Fett's flashbacks is unknown. It's possible that the show temporarily focuses on what's happening in the present time, especially since the core conflict has been established between the former bounty hunter and the Pykes. But, with several lingering questions about Boba Fett's past after his sarlacc pit fall, chances are that the flashbacks will continue one way or another.
