The Avengers: 10 Funniest Quotes | Screen Rant

Whilst there have been several movies in the MCU that feature an ensemble cast, it’s hard to forget the one that started it all – The Avengers. Although it's far from a comedy, the interactions between the characters are endlessly funny to watch.

Despite being released nearly 10 years ago, the movie features quotes and scenes that are still regarded as some of the funniest in the MCU. There’s always one character that stands out in terms of comical value, however, there are still others that say some of the funniest quotes from The Avengers.

The interactions between the "science bros" are brilliant in terms of comical value, mainly because Stark spends a lot of his time probing at Banner in an attempt to unleash The Hulk. Not only is Tony Stark impressed with Bruce's work, but he is also amazed at the fact he’s kept his inner Hulk under control.

Completely stunned, Tony is fascinated to know the details and believes he must have something that helps him out. His suggestions are simply hilarious and this quote epitomizes his quick wit.

Going from serious to funny in a matter of seconds is a gift to everyone from Tony Stark. His dramatic fall from the sky turned out to be one of Iron Man's funniest moments in the MCU thanks to his ability to add humor to any situation.

After taking the missile through the wormhole, Tony’s suit loses power and he free falls back to earth. Luckily, the Hulk has him covered and Tony survives. Thinking someone could've kissed him, his first thought after a brush with death is hysterical as his sheer horror is displayed.

In the MCU’s primary timeline, Agent Coulson perished in The Avengers at the hands of Loki, however, he still found time to reveal a particular superhero that holds a special place in his heart. He spent years collecting vintage Captain America cards so it’s no surprise he was completely in awe when they met.

Unfortunately for Coulson, their first interaction could’ve gone better had he not told him he’s watched him sleep before. The change from the typically serious and formal Agent to a superhero fanboy made for brilliant viewing and was also extremely unusual.

Creating funny nicknames for other MCU characters seemed to be a Tony Stark tradition. The first meeting between Iron Man and Thor was an intense one, however, nothing stops Tony from being on top form in terms of comedy value.

Arguing over who gets Loki, Stark finds the perfect opportunity to mention the Asgardian's unique choice of clothing. Aiming it specifically at his cape, Stark refers to it as his mother’s drapes, however, puts a Shakespearian twist on it which makes the quote that little bit better.

Forcing a team of superheroes from different worlds and time zones to work together was always going to come with complications. However, the differences between the characters are what makes their interactions so compelling to watch, especially Thor’s.

Wanting Loki back in his control, Thor demands he be released because he is of Asgard and also his brother. Natasha Romanoff is quick to remind him that he’s killed 80 people in two days. Realizing what he’s defending, Thor makes sure everyone knows that they don’t share DNA.

Due to his undeniable quick wit, there wasn’t a character that Tony Stark didn’t have an incredible dynamic with. Despite their brief screen time in The Avengers, the same goes for Tony and Pepper.

Needing Tony’s help, Agent Coulson turns up at his apartment where Pepper is more than happy to see him and refers to him as Phil. Being a member of S.H.I.E.L.D means your first name doesn’t get used often, so Stark is quick to remind Pepper that his first name is Agent, and it’s the perfect one-liner.

It’s hard to imagine another actor playing the role of Nick Fury because Samuel L Jackson executes the character perfectly. Despite having an overall cynical outlook on life, Fury still manages to find some unintended humor in his intense scenes.

By the end of the movie, it’s clear that Fury values human life when he refuses to activate a nuclear strike that would kill millions of people. He lets the World Security Council know what he makes of their decision, and his hilarious choice of words is why this is the best Nick Fury scene in the MCU.

Although their interactions are brief, the wit of Loki and endless sarcasm from Tony Stark make for an incredible dynamic between the two. People don’t often see being threatened as a good time to bring statistics into the conversation, but these people don’t include Tony.

When trying to enslave Tony, Loki’s scepter doesn’t work because of the arc reactor in Tony's chest. Seeing this as the perfect opportunity to irritate Loki, Tony begins to inform him about male performance issues. Loki is far from amused, however, it certainly amuses everyone else and is one of Tony Stark's funniest quotes in the MCU.

Robert Downey Jr.'s portrayal of Tony Stark is simply genius and quotes like this are why the MCU will never be the same without him. Even a near-death experience can’t take the spontaneous and hysterical side out of him.

Waking up and realizing they’ve won the battle; Tony is back with incredible timing and suggests the Avenger’s post-mission meal be at a shawarma joint. This improvised quote by Robert Downey Jr led to one of the funniest MCU post-credits scenes, and a decade later, it is still regarded as one of the best.

It’s hard to find a member of the MCU that has a better way with words than Tony Stark. His excitement is displayed when he meets Bruce Banner, someone who matches him in terms of intelligence.

In their first meeting, Tony is immediately impressed with the knowledge that Bruce possesses, and even goes as far as complimenting him on his work. In what is believed to be a sincere and serious conversation, Stark decides to take it in a different direction and openly admit that he loves the way Banner turns into The Hulk – aka an enormous green rage-monster.
