SWTOR's new Legacy of the Sith expansion was announced back in July 2021, with the massive update set to launch on February 15.
Launched in 2011, Star Wars: The Old Republic serves as a massively multiplayer follow-up to BioWare's previous single-player series Knights of the Old Republic. Taking place hundreds of years after those games, SWTOR sees the Galactic Republic form a tense truce with the rising Sith Empire. Conflict between the two groups forms the foundation for players' experiences, with each playable class also progressing through their own unique storyline. Over the past decade the game's plot has continued to grow through expansions and updates, with a December 2021 celebration of Star Wars: The Old Republic's ten-year anniversary also teasing the upcoming Legacy of the Sith expansion.
A new story teaser for Legacy of the Sith, posted to the official Star Wars: The Old Republic YouTube channel, gives a closer look into the upcoming expansion. As Darth Malgus puts a mysterious new plan into action, the ongoing conflict between the Sith Empire and Galactic Republic will bring players to new settings like the planet Elom and The R-4 Installation. While Malgus' true intentions remain unclear, it appears that Legacy of the Sith will end with SWTOR players confronting the renegade warlord once again.
The Star Wars franchise is well-known for its memorable and intimidating villains, and BioWare has created a brand-new nemesis for SWTOR. Playing an essential role in the MMORPG's backstory, Star Wars: The Old Republic's Darth Malgus has left a strong impression on gamers thanks to his cyborg design and powerful Force abilities. Players were able to confront and ultimately defeat the Sith Lord in one mission, although a later expansion revealed that he had survived the fight. For those eager to confront the renegade Sith Lord once again, fans will be able to uncover Malgus' ultimate plan when Legacy of the Sith launches on February 15.
