Oscar Isaac Compares Different Reactions To MCU, Star Wars & Dune

Moon Knight actor Oscar Isaac has drawn comparisons between his experiences with MCU, Star Wars, and Dune fans. Moon Knight is the highly sought-after actor's latest venture and is also the most recent MCU series on Disney+. The show tells the story of Steven Grant (Isaac), a former U.S. Marine who is struggling with dissociative identity disorder and is granted the powers of an Egyptian moon god. Moon Knight also stars Ethan Hawke and began streaming its first episode on Disney+ on March 30th, with its next episode set to drop on April 6th.

Isaac's career in the last decade has been on a particularly hot streak, with the actor having appeared in many of the most successful films of the last several years. In 2015, Isaac appeared in Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens as the character Poe Dameron and went on to play that character in the rest of the Star Wars sequel trilogy as well as several animated series and video games. Isaac also found himself in one of the most successful films of 2021 when he appeared as Duke Leto Atreides in Denis Villeneuve's Dune. Now, with the arrival of Moon Knight, Isaac has finally made his way into the MCU as well.

In a recent interview with E! NewsIsaac has compared his experiences with MCU, Star Wars, and Dune fans, as they are all properties with particularly devoted followers. For Isaac, he has stated that he found Star Wars fans to be "particularly frenzied," especially given that when The Force Awakens was released, the series was being rebooted for the first time in years. Dune's fanson the other hand, have been described by Isaac as akin to those of The Lord of the Rings, as most of them have been huge fans of Frank Herbert's novel for quite a long time before seeing the film. For Isaac, what has been unique about joining the MCU is that despite the franchise being huge, Moon Knight is not a very well-known character. Isaac has described the experience of getting to introduce the character to a mass of awaiting viewers to be "one of the most exciting parts of this whole thing." See his full quote below:

"I think Star Wars was particularly frenzied, especially for The Force Awakens. It was bringing back the story. It had been a while, it was a whole new chapter in the saga. That was like a religious frenzy that was happening there. Dune is much more akin to Lord of the Rings, very literary. People have lived with those books for a very long time, so those are fascinating conversations."

"With the MCU, what's exciting is that it's a little known character. Definitely there are some people who have been fans of it for a long time—he's been around since 1975. But still, it's a relatively obscure character. So the opportunity to introduce him into the world, and to a whole set of new fans, that's also one of the most exciting parts of this whole thing."

Isaac very likely is having somewhat of a unique experience joining the MCU. When the franchise first began, there certainly was a lot of pressure to deliver crowd-pleasing iterations of many fan-favorite characters. However, as the franchise has continued, Marvel Studios has begun introducing more obscure characters to keep the MCU fresh. This means actors like Isaac have the exciting chance to actually introduce comic book fans to characters they may have previously overlooked.

Though there is currently only one episode of Moon Knight released, Isaac seems to have - on the whole - done a good job bringing this character to the screen. The reviews for the new series have been quite positive overall, leaving many hungry to see what happens next, as the first episode raised more questions than it answered. That, of course, is exactly what a good first episode should do, ensuring that MCU fans tune in next week to see what other new things they can learn about the mysterious Moon Knight.
