In the world of The Real Housewives, it can be hard to keep up with the storylines of each cast member. Some storylines take center stage, while others are mentioned briefly before being left on the cutting room floor.
Over 13 seasons, The Real Housewives of New York has given fans countless intriguing storylines. From Bethenny Frankel creating her business from the ground up to Luann's alcohol abuse, the ladies of New York City continuously remain open and honest with just about everything happening in their lives. However, with various cast changes and limited time, there are bound to be storylines that do not get resolved.
Fans consider RHONY a comedy, but season 12 changed that dynamic. With Bethenny exiting the show and Leah coming in, fans were skeptical of a younger woman joining the cast. Little did they know, it was Dorinda that would cause the biggest uproar.
Dorinda was always aggressively honest, making her popular from her first season. During season 12, fans saw a side of Dorinda they did not enjoy. With Tinsley keeping her relationship private, Dorinda accused her of dishonesty and continuously bashed her. Dorinda's comments about Tinsley's desire to have children crossed a line for fans. The feud never reached a clear conclusion as Tinsley left the show mid-season. Dorinda's antics caused her to be put on "pause" the following season. Fans initially agreed with this decision but later wanted both women to return when season 13 went downhill.
Jules is one of the few RHONY cast members to only appear in one season. She joined the show in season 8, and fans enjoyed her quirkiness. With rumors swirling online of her failing marriage, Jules seemed to be spiraling on the show and had a few questionable moments that made the cast wonder if she was okay.
While fans got a small tease that her marriage was not healthy, they never got to see the extent to what was happening behind closed doors. Michael filed for divorce in 2016, and it was finalized in 2020. He was accused of cheating, which he denied, and the two battled in court. Jules was even arrested following an incident where she allegedly punched Michael. While the situation, as detailed by The Cut, was toxic, fans would have loved to hear her side of the story on the show.
Bethenny returned to RHONY in season 7 and immediately became close with Carole. The two got along perfectly, and it seemed as if NYC had a new power duo. Many fans even considered Bethenny and Carole one of the best friendships in RHONY.
During season 10, something changed in their dynamic. Carole was spending more time with Tinsley and Bethenny was standoffish during filming. The two butted heads throughout the season, which led to an explosive showdown at the reunion. Carole didn't return for season 11, and Bethenny left the show before season 12, so fans never got to see the reconciliation they were hoping for.
Kelly and Bethenny had many fights, but nothing like the one during season 3's famous Scary Island trip. Episode 12 is considered one of the best episodes of RHONY season 3, rated highly on IMDb, and features a dinner hosted by Bethenny. Kelly went on a rant during the dinner and accused Bethenny of trying to poison her food.
The altercation got crazier as Bethenny and Kelly got into a screaming match, with Ramona and Luann chiming in and Sonja trying to calm the situation. Viewers never got to see if the two would ever come to amicable terms as Bethenny left the series at the end of the season. Once Bethenny returned in season 7, Kelly was long gone, although fans still hold out for the possibility of her return.
During a time of social movements, a pandemic, and an election, Eboni made history, becoming the first African American to join the cast. At first, it seemed like her friendship with Luann would help her through her first season, but that was not to be.
During a brunch at Luann's home, a heated exchange between Ramona and Eboni turned when Luann deemed Eboni's behavior as aggressive. While attempting to educate the women about using that term regarding African Americans, Eboni was cut off by Luann and kicked out of the brunch. While they seemed to reconcile, their confessionals showed they were not entirely on the same page. This season was the first not to have a reunion, taking away the platform where the two could clear the air.
Heather came onto the scene in season 5 and remained for three seasons. During season 13, she was back in a friend role. Her return was expected to be a prelude to a full-time comeback, as many fans believe Heather left RHONY too soon, but that was not the case.
Heather arrived on a group trip and was immediately attacked by Leah over comments Heather made about the other women on a podcast. While she admitted to the comments, the other women seemed to pile on, and it was noticeably unsettling for Heather, although she kept calm. Fans were excited for Heather's return to the show, but she left the trip and stopped filming with the group after the attack.
Tinsley joined RHONY in season 9, living with Sonja while she got on her feet in the city. Viewers loved her bubbly personality and many fans considered Tinsley the best Housewife of season 9. Tinsley searched for love and fell head over heels for Scott, a businessman from Chicago. The two would visit one another, but the on-off relationship was questionable to viewers and her fellow castmates.
Tinsley decided to leave and move to Chicago to be with Scott during season twelve. Viewers were sad to see her go but happy that she had found love. They eventually got engaged, and it seemed like Tinsley got her happily ever after. Months later, the two called off their engagement. Fans thought they had seen Tinsley's happy ending, but now that she is single again, they would love to have her back in NYC and watch her find her soulmate.
Bethenny and Jill had a friendship that fans thought would stand the test of time. Bethenny lived with Jill for some time, and the two were always together. That all changed in season three. Bethenny was back on her own, and it seemed like Jill wasn't happy about it.
Jill constantly tried to make Bethenny look bad, only to make herself look worse. There seemed to be no reasoning behind Jill's actions, and fans were confused. With speculations running rampant, one consistent theory was that Jill was jealous of Bethenny's newfound popularity. Nonetheless, Jill continued to take shots at Bethenny and, during the reunion, backtracked and begged for forgiveness. Bethenny no longer wanted anything to do with Jill and didn't return the following season, leaving behind a broken friendship.
With season 13 filming during a turbulent time in American history, it made sense that controversial topics such as race and politics would come up. Ramona is known for her rude antics and living in her own world, but Eboni was not one to be walked over.
Eboni tried her hardest to make Ramona understand her point of view, but Ramona wanted nothing to do with it. In typical Ramona fashion, she would say something offensive, apologize, then do it all over again, never learning her lesson. Eboni did what she could to educate her privileged castmates, but nothing seemed to stick. Since the reunion was canceled, fans never got to see a reconciliation between the two, although it was unlikely to happen.
Sonja joined the RHONY cast in season 3 and has been desperately trying to sell the large townhome she once shared with her husband. With the home needing a lot of work, Sonja has had no luck getting anyone to take the enormous burden off her hands.
Many of Sonja's castmates have accused her of living in the past, unable to get over the life she once had. While the house has gone on and off the market numerous times, it seems like Sonja is stuck. Fans desperately want Sonja to succeed and free herself from the obligation of running the unreasonably large home. While she has yet to find a buyer, Sonja is not giving up, and this is one storyline where fans could soon see a conclusion.
