Minions: The Rise Of Gru Review - A Fun, Yet Slight Despicable Me Prequel

Back in 2010, a franchise was born when so-called supervillain Gru (Steve Carell) dipped his toes into fatherhood with Illumination's  Despicable Me . Now, 12 years later, Gru gets something of an origin story in director Kyle Balda's  Minions: The Rise of Gru , which also serves as the sequel to the first  Despicable Me prequel. Released in 2015,  Minions was an unexpected box office smash, becoming the then-second-highest-grossing animated movie of all time. Pandemic delays have pushed  The Rise of Gru back considerably, and now it finally arrives. Whether it was worth the wait will ultimately be determined by the audiences it was made for, but it is certain that this is a sequel that does manage to surpass the original. While Minions: The Rise of Gru still can't entirely justify itself, it does provide a far more heartfelt and fun outing than its predecessor. Picking up sometime after Minions ,  The Rise of Gru starts with neither of its title entities, but instea

The Boys Season 3's Cut Herogasm Scenes Would've Hurt Its Best Moment

WARNING: Spoilers for  The Boys  season 3, episode 6.  The Boys  season 3 had some cut "Herogasm" scenes that would've hurt its best moment had they been included. Adapted from a six-part miniseries of the same name from Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson’s original comic, the Prime Video Original's adaptation more than lived up to the hype. According to showrunner Eric Kripke, the "Herogasm" episode was going to include even more outrageous scenes that were ultimately cut due to time and budget restraints. Due to the effectiveness of one particular scene, however, this ultimately is for the best. Season 3 of  The Boys  has focused on the group searching for a means to kill Homelander once and for all. This led to Butcher and Hughie injecting themselves with a new, temporary form of Compound V called V24 and using Soldier Boy as a living weapon, much to the dismay of Mother's Milk and Starlight. In addition to the titular moment itself,  The Boys '

Man of Steel Fans Are Sharing Beautiful DCEU Shots To Celebrate Henry Cavill

Man of Steel fans are sharing beautiful DCEU shots on Twitter to celebrate star Henry Cavill. Released in 2013,  Man of Steel  marked the first Zack Snyder DC superhero film, introducing audiences to Cavill's take on Superman. The film was a hit commercially, earning over $668 million at the box office, but proved more divisive amongst critics, with the film currently sitting at a lackluster 56% on Rotten Tomatoes.  Man of Steel chronicles Superman's origins , depicting the child's upbringing on Earth before he is forced to go to great lengths to protect the people of Earth after former inhabitants of Krypton invade. Cavill would go on to appear in  Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice  and  Justice League (and  Zack Snyder's Justice League ), but a sequel to  Man of Steel  never came to pass. Although fans have clamored for another standalone Superman   film with Cavill playing the lead, no such project has yet come to fruition. Cavill himself has expressed a willin

10 Most Epic Love Stories In Movies, According To Ranker

The romance genre is in trouble as of late, and this list only proves it. The only noteworthy romance movies that have been released lately were not fans' favorites, and it seems like the best bet for lovers of the genre is to wait for the release of Thor: Love And Thunder , which according to Taika Waititi, won't shy away from romance (via Screen Rant ). But the newest Marvel movie isn't what viewers have in mind when they talk about epic love stories - the stories so powerful it's hard to believe they only happened on the big screen. And while there are differing opinions, the classics that make Ranker's top ten are hard to argue with. Note: Ranker lists are live and continue to accrue votes, so some rankings may have changed after this publishing. 10 Roman Holiday (1953) Stream on PlutoTV While it's rather surprising that Hepburn's Breakfast At Tiffany's doesn't make the cut for Ranker voters, Roman Holiday is also a great romance to w

Ryan Reynolds Got Deadpool Wrong in One Surprisingly Adorable Way

For everything  Ryan Reynolds got right about  Deadpool in the movies, there's one little detail that he got wrong in a surprisingly adorable way. After Marvel fans and even Reynolds himself called out the unfaithful portrayal of fan-favorite character Deadpool in the film  X-Men Origins: Wolverine , the actor had a second chance to prove himself worthy of the character in the 2016 film  Deadpool . The film was a critical and financial success, with fans lauding Reynolds for bringing the character to life. The film was so popular in fact that it spawned a hit sequel in 2018. Reynolds redeemed the character in the movies with his foul-mouthed humor, violent fighting style and constant breaking of the fourth wall. However, there's one detail about him that he ended up getting wrong. In the Deadpool movies, the Merc with a Mouth is constantly shown writing with a childlike mindset. The words that he includes are certainly legible, but they have a grade school level of handwr

Jurassic World Dominion: Every Returning Legacy Character, Ranked

Warning: Spoilers ahead for Jurassic World Dominion . Although it’s been raking in cash left and right at the global box office, Jurassic World Dominion has received mixed reviews from critics. The performances and action sequences have been praised, but a common thread through the various responses to the movie is that the Jurassic Park franchise has finally run its course and needs to end. If Dominion ends up being the final Jurassic movie (although the commercial figures suggest otherwise), at least it brought everybody back for one last ride. Like many recent “legacy sequels,” Dominion includes the return of several familiar faces from the classic movies that fans grew up with. Some of these returning characters make a bigger impact than others. Jurassic fans were delighted to see Drs. Alan Grant, Ellie Sattler, and Ian Malcolm again, but Dodgson’s reappearance elicited fewer cheers from the crowd. 5 Dr. Lewis Dodgson Dr. Lewis Dodgson, a bit part from the original Jura

The Top 10 Worst Pixar Movies of All-Time (Including Lightyear), According To Rotten Tomatoes

There are very few Hollywood brand names that have as strong a reputation for quality as Pixar, as the animation studio has been delighting audiences young and old for almost three decades now. Of the 26 films the company has released, only one is certified rotten on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes. The worst-reviewed movies in Pixar's history would be counted among the best-reviewed for other animation studios like Dreamworks or Illumination, but fall short in comparison to the best Pixar has to offer. Almost half of its lowest tomatoes scores are for sequels and spin-offs, lining up with most fans' desire for Pixar to focus on original stories. 10 A Bug's Life (1998) - 92% A Bug's Life   will always be an important movie in the history of Pixar for establishing the animation studio as more than a one-hit-wonder. This was only the second movie Pixar released after  Toy Story,   and proved that there were more imaginative ideas to come from the studio. RELATED:
