"It's Not A Kids Book": Harry Potter Value Questioned By WB Before Turning Into Billion Dollar Franchise
According to a former executive, Warner Bros. initially had reservations about paying so much money to acquire the rights to Harry Potter. Based on the novels by author J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone was released in 2001, introducing audiences to Daniel Radcliffe's Harry, Rupert Grint's Ron, and Emma Watson's Hermione. The first movie would be followed by seven direct sequels and three spinoff movies, with the franchise now standing as one of Warner Bros.' most valuable properties.
