As the first movie of the Disney Renaissance era, The Little Mermaid is beloved by fans and Ariel is an iconic Disney Princess. The success of The Little Mermaid saw two subsequent movies be made about Ariel and her life, as well as a TV show. These movies showed Ariel with her child, the only Disney Princess to have one, as well as her life before exploring the human world. However, one theory suggests that her past is far darker than this happy ending.
