GTA 6 Fans Mock Rockstar's Teased Announcement at The Game Awards

As rumors suggest Rockstar Games could be making an announcement at The Game Awards 2021, Grand Theft Auto 6 fans have responded with mocking jokes, casting doubt as to whether any such news would truly excite the GTA community. Despite overwhelming demand from fans for the next installment in the GTA franchise, Rockstar has thus far remained tight-lipped on news regarding the title.

While GTA 5 continues to receive consistent updates to its popular online multiplayer mode, many fans are eager to learn more information on the next title in the series. Little is known about the next GTA, but fans have grown impatient due to the company’s continued focus on the now 8-year-old GTA 5, and the troubled release of the recent GTA Trilogy. There is no shortage of rumors and hearsay regarding the series’ sequel, however, with one industry insider suggesting GTA 6 may release in 2025.

As reported by Dexerto, a Reddit discussion on the potential announcement from Rockstar at The Game Awards has garnered much mockery from fans, with many doubtful that any such news from the developer would actually be enough to excite its players. The post, shared by Reddit user Efficient-Letter7009, poked fun at a tweet from a self-proclaimed reliable source for GTA and GTA 6, Twitter user 0000078931463_k, who claimed that Rockstar’s upcoming announcement would be big news intended to appease disappointed fans. The tweet added that the developer would win back fans’ trust with its news, however, Efficient-Letter7009 was not convinced, commenting “Ha, big funny,” on their post. At the time of writing, the Reddit post has amassed over 7,000 upvotes and hundreds of comments from fans who think Rockstar Games is likely to disappoint if it does have news for TGA 2021.

Fans have used the Reddit post to respond with their own derisive sentiments, with many still feeling the disappointment from the disastrous launch of the GTA Trilogy, which was poorly received by players due to its numerous bugs and performance issues. Commenters speculated with cynicism on the potential announcement, with many joking that it will be news of yet another GTA remaster. Another Reddit user quipped that Rockstar Games' big news will simply be that GTA Online players will be receiving $250,000 of in-game money, rather than a new game in the franchise. Despite criticism, there is still some hope for a GTA 6 reveal at TGA 2021, something which would almost certainly help the company win favor with its players.

It is clear that many fans of the beloved series are wary of getting their hopes up for any future Rockstar Games titles and announcements. Hopefully, the developer will truly have something in-store at The Game Awards, perhaps the first official look at GTA 6, lest the company raise the ire of its fanbase even more. Considering the large dislike ratio on the GTA 5 PS5 trailer, which caused it to become PlayStation’s most disliked video on YouTube, Rockstar’s announcement will truly have to be something new in order to earn its players’ excitement.
