The ending of Hacksaw Ridge is a brilliant culmination of the World War II story, yet some questions linger after the credits roll. Hacksaw Ridge was directed by Mel Gibson and stars Andrew Garfield as combat medic Desmond Doss. Large parts of the film's first half focus on Doss' earlier life, from his courting of his wife Dorothy to his troubled upbringing alongside his brother, mother, and father, the latter a World War I veteran suffering from PTSD.
