While fans and showrunners alike try to develop the best spinoff to bring The Vampire Diaries universe back, it's worth looking into which characters audiences connected with. Fans connected with the main cast to an extent, but many found the villains more interesting, which explains why The Originals is so highly rated. Other villains like Kai Parker became fan favorites, but few viewers would find him sympathetic enough for his own show.
